About

How this site is made, and paid for.

Game development news for Roblox Studio, Unreal Engine, and Unity. Major updates get their own post; smaller news rolls into weekly recaps. Everything written is free to read.

What publishes

  1. 1Major updates. A significant platform change, tool release, or policy update gets its own post: what changed, what it means, and what to do next.
  2. 2Weekly recaps. The smaller news from a section, rolled into one weekly post so you can catch up without chasing announcements.
  3. 3Dev interviews. Conversations with developers building in these engines. The only paid content; free readers get the opening.

Every post can be read at three levels of effort where a rewrite exists: low is the easiest read with the least detail, high is the full piece. Free readers always see medium when there is one; members pick once and the site remembers it.

Dev interviews are the one paid kind. Members read them in full, along with an audio edition of every post and no ads anywhere.

The audio edition is read by a synthetic voice, generated from the same text after the post is written and checked. Nothing in it is written for the audio alone, and no post is ever published as audio that has not been published in writing first.

Who it is for

Studio Insights is game development news for developers who ship and earn: solo creators and small studios building in Roblox Studio, Unreal Engine, and Unity, with a game live or nearly live and no analyst to ask what a change means for it. It is not a games-industry newsletter for readers watching from outside. Every figure is sourced to the platform's own announcements and documentation, and every example is worked through with the arithmetic on the page.

The rules it holds itself to

  • Every figure links to where it came from. Official announcements, documentation, and filings, gathered again as numbered sources at the end of the post so you can check them without hunting through the text.
  • Examples are worked through with the arithmetic on the page. A percentage you cannot reproduce is a claim, not a number.
  • Major updates, weekly recaps, and interviews are chosen on merit. Nobody can pay to be in them.
  • Sponsors never see editorial content before it goes out, and ads are marked as sponsored.
  • Interviewees approve their quotes before publication and can stay anonymous if they ask.
  • Corrections go in the post itself, dated, next to the line that was wrong, and get a mention in the next post when they matter.

How it makes money

Two ways, both visible: memberships at $1 a month, and clearly labelled impression ads. The ads run on the website only. The email never carries one, and nothing ad-shaped renders for a member. There is no affiliate revenue and no paid coverage. If that ever changes, this page changes first.

Who writes it

There is no name on the byline, on purpose. Studio Insights is edited by one independent developer who does not want opinions about other studios' pricing and policy tied to their own games. The trade-off is that you cannot check a résumé, so the rules above do that work instead. If a claim here does not come with a source, treat it as an opinion.

Independence

Studio Insights is an independent publication. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Roblox Corporation. Roblox and the Roblox logo are trademarks of Roblox Corporation, used here only to describe the platform.
